Velveteen Playboys are Boston’s own “super group” of musical talent. Their original lineup included guitarist Robert Holmes formerly of the chart topping band “til tuesday,” bassist Lenny Bradford for merly of “Entrain,” and saxophonist Robert Douglas Gay who played and recorded with such greats as David Bowie, Chaka Khan and the Bee Gees. Their history of musical styles range from 80′s New Wave to Swing, the Beatles to Burlesque, and Led Zeppelin to Cabaret. All these influences combine with the guiding force of their own, brilliant originality to create a lush, melodic and powerful sound that can only be described as Velveteen Playboys.

Velveteen Playboys were the featured musical guest at the 104th Millrose Games at Madison Square Garden on Friday, January 28th. Their performance was lauded as one of the highlights of the Games on the ESPN2 live television broadcast and in the opening paragraph of the New York Times coverage of the Games the next morning. The band recently opened for Karmin, who have a number 18 hit on Billboard and appeared on the cover of the October issue of Rolling Stone Magazine, in Providence, RI as part of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Tour. In June of 2012 Velveteen Playboys headlined the US Olympic Track and Field Trials in Eugene, OR with international recording artists Eve 6. They have established themselves as a regular rotation act at the historic nightclub Birdland off Broadway in NYC.

Their 2009 Cosmic Lounge Tour was highlighted by shows at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia, The Metropolitan Room in NYC, Showcase Live in Boston, Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut and Twin River Casino in Rhode Island. But verbal effusions cannot adequately describe Velveteen Playboys. The only way to experience it is live! Their recently released CD titled, “Shakin’ Not Stirred” engineered and mixed by 3 time Grammy Award winning producer Bob St. John (Extreme, Collective Soul, Duran Duran, etc…) has gained critical acclaim. The band will be on tour starting in late November 2012. For more information on Velveteen Playboys, visit:
